| I feel better, I feel better now there's nothing wrong. | | |
| Just finished watching Cowboy Bebop again, and when the credits started rolling, I had a thought.
When these people were making it, did they know they were making a masterpiece when they went to work every day?
Was it just another job?
Bang.

| I found out today that I should totally be making way more money than some programmer at Microsoft.
I am well accustomed to, by now, making website designs and layouts and touching them up until they are beautiful in standards-compliant browsers like Firefox, and then loading up the page in IE just to see a broken mess of shit. It's something you just expect. It comes with the territory of web development and having to cater to the 42% or so of internet users who, out of laziness or general computer ignorance, still believe Internet Explorer is a passing excuse for a web browser. (Pro-tip: IE is shit. Use a proper browser.)
But today I found something that surpassed common css parsing or display bugs.
"If you send a header that says that you are using plain text, but it contains something that IE
thinks is HTML, it will ignore your header, and render it as HTML."
That's right. Just ignore your server header. They probably wanted HTML anyway, (let's hope!) so let's just let them think their server works because they are using our shitty browser, when their server is actually sending text/plain headers.
Whoever came up with this one, I salute you. Now do us all in the IT industry a favor and kill yourself. | | |
| What are we gonna do when global oil consumption rates begin to grossly outstrip production?
Oil prices are only ever going to rise. What point will we have to get to before the populace realizes that we have to invest seriously in some other form of energy?
Like not half-assedly. Not "Scientists will come up with something in 10 years so we don't have to worry about it," not "Biofuel is nice but running my car on corn is funny," not "Hybrid cars look gay." I mean seriously start making a biofuel industry, seriously getting government grants to fund this research, seriously stopping oil industries from impeding progress in alternative technology.
What will it take? $9 gas? $13 gas? Anyone who thinks it will never get that bad has their head up their ass, because its coming, and its coming much sooner than most people want to think about.
